In Québéc, the first signs of spring mean one thing: it’s maple syrup season! It’s the sweetest of seasons – in fact, it might be my favorite time of year. I certainly have a plethora of maple desserts here on Food Nouveau that make the most of it.
In this list, I’ve pulled together a dozen of my favorite ways to showcase maple syrup and maple sugar all in one place. There’s everything from the incredibly Canadian Maple Leaf Sandwich Cookies to Maple Syrup Fudge. I have cakes and cookies, panna cottas, meringues and tarts and, of course, madeleines and financiers.
There’s a maple-flavored dessert for every baking skill level and I’m sure you’ll find a sweet maple treat for every occasion.
The Maple Leaf Cookie may be one of the most recognizable Canadian desserts. How many people mark their trip to Canada by taking home a box of these beloved maple leaf sandwich cookies? They’re available in every tourist kiosk! They are also one of my favorite maple desserts to make at home and this version, using sablé cookies stuffed with a maple butter filling, is just bursting with maple flavor.
Thumbprint cookies are so nostalgic and my Pecan and Maple Thumbprint Cookies will make your home smell ah-mazing. Their maple goodness will be inhaled before you even know what happened. You’ll simply have to make another batch!
Crispy Maple Meringues are sweet, crispy treats that melt in your mouth—just as honeycomb does. They’re flavored with maple syrup and dusted with maple sugar for a light as air maple treat. They also make a great gift!

Financiers are easier to make than most people think and these Maple Roasted Fig and Hazelnut Financiers have crunchy edges and a nutty tender crumb. Topping them with maple roasted figs makes them absolutely irresistible.
This Pouding chômeur à l’érable (Maple Pudding) is the classic Québécois dessert. It’s rich in flavor, easy to make, and a completely comforting dessert. To me, it’s perfect when topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
This Orange and Maple Panna Cotta combines my love of maple and citrus. It’s topped with bright and juicy orange pieces and a delightfully crunchy maple pecan crumble for a lovely combo of flavors and textures.
This better-for-you Maple Cheesecake tastes incredibly rich and is full of lush maple flavor and yet, it is much lower in calories and fat. How does this magic happen? It’s all thanks to a clever, secret and perhaps surprising ingredient that nobody ever guesses!
This Tatin Cake turns the traditional Tarte Tatin on its head – literally! This easy upside-down apple cake is doused in maple caramel for the ultimate in maple goodness. It’s sure to become a year-round favorite.
The fluffy cloud-like maple cream tart perfectly highlights maple flavors with both maple syrup and maple sugar. The meringue crust is crisp on the outside and pillowy on the inside and the rich maple scent is heavenly.
