Things are looking up after all! After changing its status to CMCO, businesses in Penang are healing gradually. Surely the pandemic put a lot of us in a tough spot, but it also teaches us to be more flexible and persistent. Just like these hotel workers who decided to band together and open their own cafe after losing their jobs at the hotel.

One wouldn’t say that this cafe had a smooth start. Just a few days after the Mai Cafe’s grand opening, Penang went into MCO 2.0. Leaving this new cafe with very little chance to show the public what they are made of. Now that they are back in business, Mai Cafe is all geared up with loads of food choices for its visitors.

Here, they serve local cuisines, grilled food, western food, and more! You would be surprised to look at their extensive menu considering that they were only established not too long ago. Since most of the chefs were hotel workers they decided to make most of their experiences at the new cafe. The dishes served here are the result of combined ideas between these chefs.

Now, this is what you call a feast! This gigantic grilled squid dish is called ‘Sotong Buncit Nakal’ and it is a specialty dish that you can get at Mai Cafe. It can serve up to 4 people and the price ranges from RM30 – RM70. What makes this humongous dish so delicious is its special secret sauce that is poured all over the squid. Not to mention that the soft and bouncy fillings will make you fall in love in an instant.

Of course, it would come as no surprise that these talented people can produce amazing hotel-grade dishes as well. Grilled Seabass in Caper Sauce, Savage Beef Burger, and Frutti De Mare (Seafood) are only some out of many other professionally cooked dishes that you can find here. All of them are delicious and unique in their own way.
